Troubleshooting email delivery

Are you having difficulties sending/receiving emails after installing the Sent API? Are verification emails not arriving? This article will point you in the right direction!

With the v1.2 update of the API, we have introduced a debugging feature for both verification emails (emails sent to recipients of submissions with a link to verify their email address) and the regular submission emails (emails containing form data). Since both email functions use the same email library (CodeIgniter’s email library) to send emails, if you’re having difficulties sending emails, the issue most likely applies to both verification emails and regular submission emails.

This article will focus on debugging the verification email process (since if this email works fine, other emails most likely will too).

Start by logging into your admin area. Once inside your admin panel, click the Administrator drop down and then click the “Settings” link as in the image below:

Once on the settings panel, scroll down to the “Email Settings” section and flip the switch labeled “Debug verification email” as in the image below:

Email debugging for the email verification is now turned on. The next step is to navigate to one of the forms you have setup to submit to your Sent API. Make sure you have the proper API url set in the “action” attribute of the form and that it includes an email address which is not yet verified.

When we submit the form, you’ll a whole lot of information printed to your screen with lots of info on what happened. The first line will indicate wether or not you’re email has actually been send.

If the information on your screen indicates your email has been sent, but you’re still not receiving anything, the problem is on the receiving end.

If the info indicates your email is not being sent, you can use the remaining info to find the exact problem, or make a screen shot of the info and attach it to a ticket on our support site so one of our tech staff can help you sort out your issue.
